The UNESCO classified Lilau Square was and continues to be a meeting place of cultures. Home to a shaded well and square, and surrounded by residences of various backgrounds, housing influential local Macanese families, to Western businessmen and diplomats, it is even imbued with its own legend. Though only earning its name in the 20th century, its place in the history books goes back to the first decades of the 19th century. The name of this square represents the two cultures, because the Portuguese name is Fonte do Lilau, meaning the Lilau water source, but in Chinese it's the old lady well. These were already the outskirts of the city, this was the main street, and the fountain was the main element - where people had to wait to bring water home.
The water comes from Penha Hill, in Chinese it was the 'San Pou Su', the place of the three trees. And the three trees are still here today. The fountain was the place that unified the people who come here: we have British, Portuguese and Chinese mainly. We have here an interesting building, the yellow building here is from 1937 this website. This is an art deco building that is not only the art deco value, but it also has what is called the 'hygiene' policies, that were influenced from the green cities from Ebenezer Howard, the man that started the green cities philosophy. Then in front of us we have the white buildings. These buildings appear in photos of the 1870s. So they are more than 150 years old, and these buildings could be in any Portuguese village, Mediterranean village. So small houses, white plaster, for small families. Then behind you still have a big mansion. And these were the mansions of the big families, that were the mansions that were rented to the British, to the Americans, to the different companies before the foundation of Hong Kong. And this house on the corner, the green house, is a Chinese house, and inside it still has the layout that existed 200 years ago. And I finish with the legend that says the ones who drink from Lilau will remember or will come back to Macau. Just a short walk away lies another one of Macau's historical treasures, the Moorish Barracks. Constructed after the arrival of new governor of Macau - Visconde de São Januário, who brought a unit of soldiers with him from India, the barracks oversaw the sea and demonstrated an interlinking of the Portuguese-speaking countries still present today. One year after [Visconde's arrival], this was built and that unit of Indian soldiers came to this building, which became known as the Moorish Barracks. So this position was critical to observe the harbour. And then it also was good to 'control' the Chinese floating population that was in the Inner Harbour, as well as the Chinatown in front of us. So the building was in a very strategical position, with very strategical troops that were neither Portuguese nor Chinese, so that could intervene rapidly in any problem they faced here. The Portuguese also are pioneers in organizing these kind of troops, foreign troops, like Muslim, Chinese and later African troops to Macau. And the British somehow copied this kind of formula, to have indigenous unities for police and also administration. This was for a battalion of almost 200 men and later in 1905 it became a maritime police unit. And then the authority over the port, because the port was just in front of us, so they could control the entrance of the port. And now it's the water and maritime authority. And in 2005 it was classified, or included, in the World Heritage list.

OH *knocking* HEY Oh well listen lady... Accounting degree qualifications online provide The opportunity to enter this rewarding profession, even if you are currently working full time in another profession. A career in accountancy has a requirement for official certification, and there is unfortunately no option to start at the bottom and work your way up. This requirement for an official qualification has proved to be an obstacle for numerous students in the past, but the advent of online learning has actually made entry into this field much simpler to achieve. Once you have acquired an online accounting degree, you will be able to begin applying for entry level jobs, and this will give you the springboard to launch your career. It is possible to progress through the ranks with no further qualifications, but for the best chance of career success you will want to keep studying even after you have made the career change breakthrough. There are master's degree courses which can also be studied online, in your spare time while you work at your initial entry level job in accountancy. These do not have to be studied immediately following your initial bachelor's or associate degree. The education path which you follow can be tailored to your own needs and your own situation. You can take the opportunity to study for either a bachelor's degree or an associate degree at the start, and the associate degrees are becoming increasingly popular. They take less time to complete, and are often administered by organizations which charge less for tuition than the established colleges. Despite this, the increase in projected career earnings is very similar to that of the bachelor's degree. Once you have your initial qualification, you can then decide exactly when to study for a master's degree. Degrees online Taking an accounting degree online can give you the chance to pursue career options which would previously have been impossible, but it is important to be aware of the potential pitfalls which can await the new prospective student. Many mature students have only become familiar with computers late in life, and in this case there is a definite need to make sure that they are fully computer literate before attempting to take on a college course. If necessary, postpone your accountancy course until after you have completed a course in the use of a PC. There are also logistical difficulties which may need to be overcome, especially if you share your living space with other members of your family. The type of material which needs to be studied in a course of this type cannot be absorbed adequately while you are distracted or suffering from divided attention. You will need to have your own space dedicated to learning, which may mean buying a second computer, and even having an extension to the Internet connection built in another room. Make sure that all of the facilities you need are in place before you start. Online Degree The most important factor of all in taking your accounting degree online is making sure that you have enough time to complete your studies. Online courses are far more flexible than those which are taken in a classroom, and this can work against you if you are not meticulous with time management. Never think that you can fall behind and catch it up again, because you probably won't. It is more than likely that your absorption of the material will be impaired by your constant clock watching, so stay on top of the task. This means allowing a safety margin when you take your accounting degree online. In no particular order, here are some useful tips for searching and selecting the right college or university.
These tips provide good advice from students, counselors and college admissions officers; but always remember, the final decision is yours. Good luck. FIRST HAND VISITS. If possible, plan to visit campuses yourself to get a first hand account of the school's culture and social life. PERSONAL TIP. "Keep your options open and don't plan your whole life around one college. It will make it a lot easier if you don't get accepted. And if you don't get accepted, your world isn't over. There will be other colleges for you. Keep your head up, and keep trying." -- Hope Lobkowicz, Medomak Valley High School. PERSONAL TIP. "It's okay to go to a community college. By going to a community college, you can take a wide variety of classes that can help you find out what you are interested in. By going to a community college, you can still get a good education while taking fun - and less expensive - classes." -- Rebecca Rowland, West Valley College. A COLLEGE CHOICE IS AN INDIVIDUAL CHOICE. Your best friend is not necessarily going with you to the next phase of your education. Make your college choice individually. You will become a better person if you are brave enough to strike out on your own. Value and develop your own self-worth. BE REALISTIC. Learn to deal with rejection and failure, especially if you are looking at competitive colleges. Not everyone can be in the top 10 percent of the class. Good coping skills will benefit you throughout your life. HOW MANY SCHOOLS DO I APPLY TO? We recommend students apply to 5-7 schools (2 schools outside of their financial budget, 2-3 schools within their financial budget and 1-2 safety-net schools that are a financial bargain). HOW MANY SCHOOLS DO I APPLY TO - AGAIN? It may also be helpful to divide your top choices into "reach" schools-those that might be a stretch financially or academically; midrange schools where you're likely to get in but aren't sure; and safety schools-the sure bets. A good rule of thumb is: Apply to three reach schools, three midrange choices and two safeties TALK TO REAL STUDENTS. Current students are often the best source for the skinny on a particular school. Talk to college students who are home over the summer about their experience on campus. What do they like best? What do they like least? What advice do they have about applying to college or life on campus? SUMMER CLASSES. Take classes at the school of your choice during the summer. Have your heart set on a particular school? It doesn't hurt, and it may help, to try it out for the summer. Many colleges offer academic and athletic enrichment programs for high school students over the summer. Spending a summer, or even a few weeks, on campus is a great way to get to know a school. And admissions officers are more likely to believe that you are interested in their school. VISIT COLLEGES DURING THE SUMMER. Take advantage of the slow summer season to schedule campus visits and set up individual meetings with college admissions officers. Remember that visits to most schools need to be scheduled weeks in advance. Also, the campus visit is the time for students, not parents, to show their interest. FOLLOW UP AND STAND OUT. Follow up the interview with a "thank you" letter. Not only will such a letter remind the interviewer of your existence, but will also help you stand out from within a large pool of candidates. You may also look at this as a follow up interview in which you get to do all the talking! BODY LANGUAGE IS IMPORTANT. Make sure to have positive body language throughout the interview. Good eye contact, good posture, moderate body/arm movement and an air or enthusiasm are extremely important. DON'T' REVEAL EVERYTHING. Although you should be talking about yourself to a great extent, make sure you don't overdo it! Take care not to launch into tirades about irrelevant or negative aspects of your life and personality. Be careful not to bare your soul and express negative feelings or ideas about others (unless specifically asked). Try to be as congenial and diplomatic as possible. OK, SO YOU'RE NOT PERFECT. If an interview points out a mistake or a negative quality about you, try to show him/her a positive perspective of the same thing. In such a situation you should be challenging, but not rude or stubborn. If, despite all discussions, it seems that the interviewer has got you cornered, don't hesitate to accept or own up to your mistakes. However, don't miss the opportunity to express how you've learned from the mistake and are now a better, more capable student. RELAX BUT CONCENTRATE. Your demeanor during the interview should be one of relaxed concentration. You should tune out any "noise" inside your head and concentrate on the moment at hand. This concentration on the present will also help you avoid distractions, nervousness, or self-doubt. PREPARE, YET BE SPONTANEOUS. Act spontaneous, but in actuality be extremely well prepared for the interview. The interviewer should not get the impression that you are reading a previously-rehearsed script. This is done by memorizing the points you intend to mention, but not memorizing the actual words. Use professional editing services for help. For example, you may decide beforehand that when they ask you about the reason why you want to join their college, you will start out by mentioning the fact that the particular college has one of the most qualified faculties (or anything else you may want to point out). However, the words you choose to say that should be coming naturally and spontaneously. In short: rehearse the content, but not the words. SELL YOURSELF. If the interviewer does not get around to asking you questions which you think are extremely relevant, go onto them yourself (diplomatically). For example, if you want to mention your exceptional GPA but are asked about extracurriculars, you may respond, "I feel that ECs are extremely important for a student and I have participated in my fair share of ECs (mention them here), but I still feel that academic performance is a critical factor behind success and that is where the bulk of my effort has always been concentrated, which is reflected in my GPA, which was in the top 1% of my school..." KNOW WHERE YOU ARE GOING. Leave home with the address of the admission office or off-campus site, a contact phone number, and a good set of directions and map BE FLEXIBLE. Give your interviewer a firm handshake, maintain eye contact, and follow his or her lead. Sometimes you will be asked first if you have any questions, other times the admission interviewer will take the initiative with questions. Remember: Try to be flexible! SUMMARIZE HOW THINGS WENT. Make a mental (or written) list of what you learned about the college. Do this as soon as you finish the interview, so that the facts are fresh in your mind. This information will be helpful weeks or months later, when you wish to compare prospective schools. AVOID POPULAR CONCEPTIONS. If there is a popular conception of the school (Princeton is isolated, Dartmouth has too many fraternities, Harvard has too little student-teacher contact), don't ask about it. Your interviewer will have heard the same question ten billion times. Save this question for your tour guide or for other students you meet while on campus. You don't want to seem off the wall by asking bizarre questions; but even more you don't want to sound exactly like every other boring kid who was in there before you. Challenge yourself to come up with creative and interesting questions and ones that you are curious about the answer. If your idea of a fraternity or sorority
